He was educated at the Dollar Academy, Perthshire.
He travelled Europe, Africa, India, Malaya, and Australia as manager of his father's Royal Italian Circus, and from about 1924 he was joint director with his elder son of Bostock Cinema Circuit, for which the head office is at Ipswich, Suffolk.

In his youth he was a speedway motor-cycling champion rider in Scotland.
In World War II he served in the Home Guard as a liaison officer.
He was president of the Skegness Yacht Club, and gave several craft to the government for D-Day.

He was also president of the Boxer Dogs Association, and bred champion Boxer dogs at Burstall Kennels, near Ipswich, Suffolk.

On one occasion he rushed into a main street in Glasgow to stop two runaway horses pulling a lorry.

He lived in Singapore for 10 years.
